Here is a bit of a rundown of tonight’s council meeting.
The agenda for the meeting can be found here.
Minutes from our previous meeting can be found here.
Our meeting begins with a presentation from James Montgomery of the Brandon Riverbank Inc. The Brandon Riverbank Inc. presents on a yearly basis to council, and provides an update on the 2019 activities and accomplishments as well as to request support for 2020.
Following this, we will hold a public hearing for borrowing on the 34th Street expansion to McDonald Ave. This will also be addressed during the second half of the council meeting, where we deliberate the request, but as with other borrowings we proceed with a public hearing where residents can speak for or against the borrowing on the project. I feel this is a tremendously important part of the process and allows residents the opportunity to have their voice heard on a given project. This project promises to be transformational for the area and satisfies the need for a safe, two-way exit along McDonald Ave.
We have a small bit of administrative business that deals with the annual tax sale. This process speaks to properties that are delinquent on taxes to be legally prepared for tax sale as per the tax sale terms and conditions. It also allows, under the Municipal Act, to deem that the year prior to the current year be designated as the tax sale year; and the amount and terms of non-refundable deposit for successful purchases of tax sale properties be determined in the annual Tax Sale Terms and Conditions document.
Lastly, we have a number of appointments to various boards and committees of council. It is heartening to see some many wonderful folks coming forward to serve our community in this fashion.
That is all for now, should you have any questions, feel free to let me know. You can tune in to our meeting here.
Thanks,
Shaun
