The fourth formal meeting of council will take place Monday, January 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
As the first meeting of 2019, there are a number of items that will be addressed at this meeting.
- Council agenda for Monday, January 7, 2019
- Minutes of the special meeting of council, December 17, 2018
- Minutes of the regular meeting of council, December 17, 2018
This meeting will see a presentation from Brett Turner of the Brandon Sport Alliance. The Brandon Sport Alliance is a non-profit group that helps different sporting groups in the community to provide coaching support and workshops and coordination. Mr. Turner will provide council with an update on their request for support. The nature of his visit is not to ask council for financial support. They are asking for council’s support of the alliance and to be able to work with civic officials for assistance in working within the City of Brandon Sport Policy.
Council will hear a presentation from Executive Director of the Brandon Riverbank Inc. James Montgomery. You can read their full report here. As an aside, did you know that in 2018 over 30,000 people visited the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
Under the hearing of delegations portion of the agenda, council will hear presentations from Elisabeth Saftiuk of the Brandon Downtown Development Corporation, and Richard Bruce and Tyler Foster on behalf of the Westman Multicultural Festival.
Under the Committee Reports section, council will receive a verbal update from council members serving on the Keystone Centre board.
Lastly, as many of you may have read the proposed budget was presented by city administration yesterday. The budget currently sits at a 3.91% increase for 2019. I invite you to come out to the public forum on the budget January 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the main foyer of City Hall. Here you can share your feelings on the budget and ask questions of city administration and council. Council will deliberate the budget on January 25, 26, through two all day sessions. (Read more about the proposed budget here).
That is all for now. As always, you can tune in to a live feed of the council meeting via the City of Brandon social media channels or on WCGtv.
