Regarding the closure of some city facilities

Hello friends,

We’ve talked a lot in a virtual sense lately, but I wanted to keep you updated and informed on city happenings throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Today the decision was made to close public access tomorrow (Thursday) at 5 pm to some of our civic buildings due to COVID-19. I know it will be a challenge to some people as they rely on access to services at these city facilities. We understand that and know that it could potentially be frustrating. Out of an abundance of caution though, this was the best option to limit venues for the possible public spread of the virus.

At this time access to the Brandon Police Service building, the Eastview Landfill site, Brandon Transit and the Brandon Municipal airport remain open. We ask though that you limit access to these spaces in the interests of health for all our residents.

I know the coming weeks and months will be challenging for you and your loved ones, and there is a lot of uncertainty ahead. At times, I feel that same sense of uncertainty, a very human reaction to the unknown. I want to ensure though to you that although access has been closed off at this time, the city will continue to provide the services (albeit modified at times) you rely on. I also want to continue my commitment to you that although some services may be delayed, I remain available to you to answer any questions you may have on this or any other matter. My role is to continue to serve the needs of our residents, and to provide as much regularity to a very irregular situation.

If you are interested, we have published a full list of closures as well as how you can continue to access city services. The page can be found here: https://www.brandon.ca/public-notices-details?var=5890

If you have any questions, I would welcome the call, e-mail, or message. I welcome you to comment below as well. Let’s keep a discussion going. Let’s continue to show why we are a community that comes together, shows up, and more than answers the bell when faced with adversity.

Please remember, now more than ever, pick up the phone to check on a neighbour, offer to pick up some groceries for them. FaceTime them, send them a note just to say hello. Let’s remain “virtually social” in what can feel like an incredibly isolating time.

I look forward to hearing from you, and I look forward to continuing to see our community provide a very Brandon response to the challenge in front of us.

Take care and be well,
Shaun
