
Were you impacted by the flooding of June 2020? City council and city administration have finalized the details on a subsidy program for the installation of backwater valves and sump pits in residential basements. Funding for this program was brought forward and approved by city council, in consultation with administration, at our budget deliberations in January 2021.
This program looks at subsidizing individual residents for work they had to undertake as a result of flooding in basements. This program is retroactive provided the installation of components occurred January 1, 2020, or later, and met the following conditions (which include but aren’t limited to):
o a permit is in place
o the work has passed an inspection by the City of Brandon
o proof of payment to the plumber in full

I’m very proud that our administration and council could come together on this very worthwhile initiative to alleviate some of the challenges our residents, including those in the University ward, faced.
