The third formal meeting of council will get underway at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall (3 of 88). The public is welcome to attend.
This is a lengthier agenda and is chalk full of plenty of items of significance.

First and foremost this meeting will see the establishment of development fees in the city. This is a challenging issue and has been in the public realm since consultations took place dating back to 2016. The fees have undergone a number of reviews and consultations. The purpose of the fees would assist the city to cover portions of the infrastructure costs associated with future growth. The development charges would be reviewed every three years to ensure that they still are effective and are raising the necessary revenue to support future growth. As part of the move to authorize development charges, multiple different streams will be established through a number of bylaws to allocate different fund streams for different elements of growth. You can read all about the process here.
The agenda also has a presentation from Brandon University requesting funds from the Accommodation Tax reserve for assistance in hosting the 2021 U-Sports Men’s National Volleyball championship.
I’m also happy to share that council will move the citizen appointments to a number of boards and committees in the city. Thank you to all who put their name forward to assist with the various groups. Without citizen engagement many of these entities would struggle to remain viable.
There will be a bunch of other items to come forward! Oh, and a bit of fun, city
Cheers,
Shaun
