At tonight’s special council meeting, we will be considering a couple of recommendations to help ease some of the burdens on residents of our city during the COVID-19 pandemic. 7:00 p.m. on WCGtv and the City of Brandon YouTube channel.
1. Amendment to the 2020 fee schedule will be considered. This would see the city suspend NSF charges on payments made without sufficient funds (until Dec. 31, 2020). Although a small financial impact, it will keep from overburdening people who may, through no fault of their own, be impacted by a fee levied by the city should a payment be rejected.
2. We will be considering a recommendation that would see the city look at extending the deadline for tax payments to July 31, 2020. With this said, to align with actions of the Province of Manitoba, the city will defer any imposition of tax penalties until October 1, 2020, for current taxes in the 2020 year.
3. We will be considering a recommendation that will allow for some flexibility to the TIPS program. This will include the final payments leading up to the new tax bills being issued, as well as measures to extend the application deadline for the TIPS program to July 15, 2020.
Lastly, we will be looking at bumping up our time for our April 20, 2020 meeting. it will begin at 6 p.m as opposed to 7 p.m.
